For some time I have been fascinated by the connections between the lectionary readings chosen for each day of the church year, and the way in which the Old Testament and New Testament readings comment on and support one another.

So the idea came to me (I trust under the guidance of God’s Spirit) to prepare a series of studies which draw together the historical and theological connections and weave a consistent pattern – sometimes a surprising pattern that only emerges when we consider both Old Testament, New Testament and Gospel readings (as well as the set Canticle or Psalm) side by side.

My aim is to provide studies on the main Sunday lectionary readings which cover the entire church year (Year C), beginning with Advent. You are welcome to use these studies for your own meditation, for Home Group sessions, or in any way you find them useful. Enjoy!
