July 21st – Jesus visits Mary and Martha

Madi Simpson preaches on the story of Jesus at the home of Mary and Martha. (Luke 10:38-42). We tend to focus on the contrast between Mary and Martha, with Martha running around distracted by all the preparations for Jesus and his disciples, and Mary choosing to ignore all the housework and sit at Jesus’ feet. But really the story is about Jesus, about his willingness to enter our homes and to meet with us in the every day circumstances of our lives. It’s important that we learn to recognise him, welcome him, and spend time with him as Mary did (and we must assume that Martha did too, in her own way).
