NEWS FROM TIM & KATE LEE IN MANILA
The Lee’s latest JIGSAW news letter can be found here.
A subsequent e-mail from Tim and Kate asks for prayer for the city and people of Manila which is now on lockdown because of coronovirus.
The government in Manila has issued a code red emergency due to the virus and from Saturday 14 March Manila is going into lock down. People are urged to buy food, cleaning materials, soap, medical alcohol to clean their houses and protect their families, However, those in Jigsaw and the areas we work don’t have the money to buy food or medical supplies and have no funds to go to hospital if they get sick. Jigsaw is so worried as so many of our brothers and sisters are suffering from hunger and health problems already. We really need help to raise the emergency funds for the food and medical supplies needed.
There is a green First Aid box by the entrance to the Parish Church. If this is used, the incident should be recorded in the Accident Book and reported to the Church Wardens.
DIY SOS THANK YOU
A huge thank you to all who helped with painting, maintenance and spring cleaning in the Parish Centre at the weekend. The church came together to give their time and gifts, and there was laughter, singing and music whilst we worked and ate together over the weekend. We achieved so much and will be finishing off the work over the next month or two. Many thanks again.
EASTER MAKERS’ MARKET
The market will be open from Sunday 29 March until Sunday 19 April. Come and take a look at (and buy) some of the amazing creations our church mice have been making.
Upright piano £50 OR OFFERS (buyer collects).
Contact the Parish Office on 01229 588081.
We will be using ‘Saying Yes To Life’ for both Sunday preaching and homegroup materials. This will help us to get to grips with creation care and how we can engage positively with the climate change crisis. If you’d like to join a homegroup, please see the notice board in the café church area and contact one of the leaders.
Are you looking for something to help your Bible reading and prayer life during Lent?
‘Care for God’s Creation’ is the Church of England’s Lent campaign for 2020. This devotional series can be found online by searching “Live Lent” at churchofengland.org and follow the link to download the app or sign up on C of E website to receive by email. Some booklets will also be available in church.
We have just sent £30 to Jigsaw from the sale of cards. Please keep buying cards as Jigsaw are desperate for funds at the moment. They are very grateful to us as a church and to individuals who support the amazing work Jigsaw do in Manila. If you don’t already, but are interested in offering your support please speak to Rita or Steve Parkinson. If you wish to pray for the Jigsaw project there are prayer letters available on the mission table at the back of church.
YOUNG LEADER TRAINING
This will take place on Tuesday 28 April from 6pm to 9pm. Please contact Ruth Hutchings if you would like more information.
CAFE CHURCH CHANGES
To give Cafe Church more of a youth focus, there will be some changes after Easter. Cafe Church will start at 6pm, and have more youth involvement. Then the older youth will have some food and meet separately from 7.30 to 9pm. If you have any questions about this please speak to Ian Peters or Ruth Hutchings.
We will be revising the church electoral roll (membership list) between 8 and 29 March. If you would like to join it, please speak to Ian Jones or fill in one of the application forms and hand it to a church warden.
The EcoChurch day, on 24 March, with Lydia Muithya has been CANCELLED due to a restriction on travel by Christian Aid.
Please take the time to take a look at the Fairtrade table at the back of church. You may also consider signing up to the Ulverston Town Fairtrade Newsletter.
LADIES FILM NIGHT
